Krabi is often considered amongst young backpackers as one of the crown jewels of Thailand’s beach destinations. However, Krabi is more than just a haven for beach lounging and partying. We will cover the highlights in a 3 days Krabi itinerary for you!

How to get to Krabi?

There are many options to get to Krabi since this province boasts its own airport. If you like the ‘rythm of the rails’ you can take the night train from Bangkok. If you only have limited time, then taking a flight is a more convenient way to safe time.

However, if you would follow our one month itinerary in Thailand, Krabi would be the next destination after the Koh Yao Islands. This means you can get the local longtailboat from the tranquil and pristine island of Koh Yao Noi to the Ao Thalane Pier in Krabi and take a bus to Krabi town.

Best time to visit

November to March is the perfect time to visit Krabi. The east side of Southern Thailand has the best weather conditions from January until August, while the west coast has perfectly sunny weather conditions during the months November until May.

Best things to do during your Krabi itinerary

While Krabi is frequently hailed as a bustling tourist hub full with tons of activities, it’s crucial to note that Krabi town is not the primary stage for the region’s attractions. Consider renting a scooter to smoothly navigate the diverse highlights in the region.

Day 1: Railay Beach

Railay Beach draws backpackers from far and wide for its adventurous rock climbing and beach parties. The vibrant nightlife on Railay Beach competes with Koh Samui’s famed full moon parties. For those looking for an authentic Thai beach experience, akin to the yet undiscovered charm of Koh Yao Noi, Railay Beach may not be the idyllic golden beach you seek. However, for nomads with a high adventurous energy, this beachfront awaits.

Getting to Railay Beach might be an easy 10 minute boat journey, but during post-peak hours, there is a catch. Although the boat schedule tells you there will leave a boat at a certain time, the boat sets sail only when every seat is taken.

Travel tip: Don’t risk taking the last boat back in low season since the only way to get back is to pay for the unattended seats. We learned that one the hard way.

Railay Beach to us, seemed like a beachfront Disneyland with a lot of attractions, restaurants and hotels. There is a street lined with restaurants and clubs for a vibrant nightlife, you have to buy tickets to visit caves on the island (which are not worth the amount of money in our opinion), and it is crowded almost everywhere except for the Railay beach hike to the hidden lagoon.

Before you reach the beach on the other side of the island, you’ll come across a steep pathway up. It will give you a stunning view over the Phang Nga Bay and is perfect for those seeking respite from the crowds.

The hike continues along a super steep and slippery path to Railay Beach’s secret lagoon. Exploring the secret lagoon comes with its own set of risks and is, in my humble opinion irresponsible to do. Remember there are no ambulances on standby and accidents can happen. Travel responsible and within your own limits. While the allure of hidden trails may be magnetic, safety still comes first!

However, Kevin is always up for adventure and indeed, it is a very beautiful place. A perfect way to end your day is to take place on the beach right before golden hour in order to watch the gracefully descend of the sun.

Day 2: Dragon crest Mountain: the coolest hiking trail in Krabi

Dragon Crest Mountain, also referred to as the Khao Ngon Nak viewpoint, awaits a 40 minute drive from Krabi’s main town. It’s an exhilarating back and forth hike through the jungle that culminates in a spectacular viewpoint, overlooking the Phang Nga Bay. Undoubtedly, it ranks among the top attractions in Krabi.

Consider spending your evening at the small local, yet lively, night market in Krabi town. Treat yourself with an irresistible Thai banana nutella roti – I always do! #rotirules

Day 3: Tiger Cave Temple

The tiger cave temple, officially known as Wat tham Suea is a challenging ascent, as the stairways boasts a daunting 1260 steps. Be prepared for some squad exercises as the steps are spaced quite a distance apart. The view at the top makes every drop of sweat worthwhile.
